Purpose of the Guide

The purpose of Placemaking for Inclusion: A Guide to Tenant-Based Initiatives, is to be a resource for affordable housing providers and tenants who are seeking to undertake their own tenant-based initiatives while fostering greater social inclusion in their community.

Funded by the Community Housing Transformation Centre's Community-Based Tenant Initiative, this document explores the root causes of the stigmatization of affordable housing, while providing strategies and solutions to overcome negative public perceptions. It further explores how  tenant-based initiatives can effectively challenge these stereotypes while also increasing social inclusion.

By showcasing key findings obtained from a tenant-based initiative at an affordable housing residence in Edmonton AB, this guide seeks to empower and inspire tenants to lead initiatives that bring their community together.
